Peter DyeHe/Him Assistant Director, Community & Global Engagement, Oglethorpe University
Peter Dye is an ESL teacher and advisor for college students across a range of immigration statuses. He worked primarily in international student support as a DSO before becoming the scholar advisor for the TheDream.US scholarship program at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia. He encountered questions from undocumented students for the first time that he was not qualified to answer around topics like financial aid, driver’s licenses, work authorization, career licensure, healthcare, and safety. Peter leaned heavily on the expertise of undocumented students, educators, and practitioners (both local and national) to build up resources and supports for students at Oglethorpe as well as Undocu-Ally workshops for faculty and staff. Communities of practice are crucial for providing access and opportunities for undocumented students, and Peter is happy to share any materials he has developed and is eager to continue learning from others working in this space.
