The Department of Education released an updated version of the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) in December 2023. Since the launch of the new FAFSA, contributors without social security numbers (SSNs) have faced challenges setting up required FSA IDs and submitting completed applications. The Department of Education released a temporary workaround for students with imminent submission deadlines in mid-March and has continued to provide updates as they work toward a permanent fix.

This page contains up-to-date information, as well as resources developed by organizations to support practitioners looking to advise families on their next steps. We will continue to update this page as more information about the FAFSA becomes available. If you have updates or resources to share, please email Corinne at corinne@presidentsalliance.org.
