The UCLA Advisory Council on Immigration Policy (ACIP) was established in March 2017 to analyze new federal immigration policies and their potentially harmful impact on the UCLA campus community. The council is composed of students, administrators, staff, and faculty across campus departments and schools. In October 2017, Dr. Abel Valenzuela was appointed as Special Advisor to the Chancellor on Immigration Policy and chair of the ACIP. In this role, he leads the efforts of ACIP to support those negatively impacted by immigration policy changes on campus.

  • In 2017, ACIP produced a wide-ranging report that offers recommendations for addressing the needs of our community of international and immigrant students, researchers, staff and faculty.
  • Since its establishment, ACIP has coordinated numerous educational events, legal clinics, and has participated in various workshops, teach-ins, and panels focused on pressing immigration local, state, and national policy changes.
  • ACIP is housed and administered within the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment and is led by Abel Valenzuela and Jennifer Tom.
