Deirdre Hand is the Community Engagement Specialist for the Center for Refugee, Migrant, and Displacement Studies at Virginia Tech as well as co-founder, Academic Director, and College Counselor of Elimisha Kakuma, a university-access program in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya that was founded in 2021. She is an an educator with a Master’s in Education, Curriculum, and Instruction, with a concentration in TESOL. She has more than 15 years of experience teaching English around the world, including in Indonesia, Rwanda, Kenya, Guatemala, the Czech Republic, Spain, Ireland, and the public school system in Washington D.C.
